This book belongs to David Miller Age 6 From Phoenix, Arizona. Sweet Dreams David! Love Mommy
David screamed and Mom came running. "Not another bad dream?" asked Mom.
David nodded.
"What am I to do with you?" said Mom.
David shrugged his shoulders. "I can't help it if I dream of monsters!"
"Well, maybe you, Andrew and Anthony should not talk about monsters all day," suggested Mom.
Meanwhile in a land far away, Grump had been called to the Boss's office. Grump did not like that the Boss always shouted at him.
"Where are all these new monsters coming from?" screamed the Boss. "Well, it's these three humans. They dream up new monsters every night," explained Grump.
"Building new homes for them costs money! Fix it!" shouted the Boss. Grump ran out of the office.
Back in his cave Grump went to his thinking corner to find a solution. "What, oh what can I do?" wondered Grump.
Then he had an idea; maybe he could send them a really, really scary monster and they would stop making up others!
He began drawing the most horrible monster ever. Next, he sprinkled a little magic dust on it. The monster came alive.
"That should do the trick!" said Grump.
David woke up screaming.
Mom stood by the door and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yes," he replied with a shaky voice.
Mom left again, and David tried to go back to sleep. It wasn't easy, the last monster had been really, really scary.
What if Mom was right?
Perhaps he should give up the monster games with Andrew and Anthony.
The next day at school Andrew told them, "We have to stop making up all these monsters. I wake up screaming every night."
Anthony nodded.
"Me too," admitted David.
"Okay, let's talk about something else then. Football or school, ANYTHING but monsters!" decided Andrew.
They all agreed to stop talking about monsters.
Back in Monsterland, Grump thought again about what he could do. Finally, he had another idea. It had never been done before, but it might just save his cave.
Grump rummaged in his cave until he found the special spell. He had to persuade David, Anthony and Andrew to stop making up monsters.
Grump waited for his hands to stop shaking and then walked through the wall into the bedroom where David was sleeping.
David woke up and saw Grump! "Don't worry, I won't hurt you," said Grump, and then took David by the hand. They soon arrived in Grump's cave.
Grump said, "You have to stop making up monsters."
David told him that they had tried. David had an idea, "Show us the monsters when they're not trying to scare us." Grump's eyes lit up.
"What a good idea, but we will need to get your friends!"
Outside they saw a ghastly, gloomy landscape. It was nothing like Phoenix, Arizona!
Grump showed them around. There were monsters everywhere, hundreds of them.
"Did WE invent all these monsters?" asked David.
"Not quite. Only when you wake up screaming do you make a new monster that lives here," said Grump.
"You've just got to dream of something nice."
Next, Grump took them to see his grandmother."She is very nice, but she hates bad manners, so make sure you behave!" Grump told them.
David grinned. It seemed all grandmothers wanted you to behave! Grumps' grandmother's cookies were just delicious. She told them funny stories about Grump when he was little. Finally, it was time to go. Grump took David, Anthony and Andrew back to his cave.
Word spread quickly. When they arrived at the cave, the other monsters had prepared a big party. There were balloons, party streamers and yummy food. David, Anthony and Andrew laughed so hard that their tummies ached.
"Monsters aren't as scary when you get to know them," decided David.
They said goodbye to all the monsters and slipped magically through the wall back to a peaceful sleep.
